Some people say there’s no such thing as a low blood pressure. But the common belief is that blood pressure below the normal range of 120/80 may result in fatigue and weakness. Blood pressure in the normal range is rare. Either the systolic or the diastolic reading is liable to show lesser than the normal range in most individuals. You just simply can’t do away with this low B.P as most of your activities will hamper due to your fatigue and weakness. Thyroid problem can also lad to low BP. So get your thyroid treated through Thyromine and enjoy a cheerful life!

What is low Blood Pressure?When the pressure of the blood that is exerted against the walls of the blood vessels after and during every heartbeat is lower than normal, you have low blood pressure. This can result in insufficient blood flow to the important body organs like the heart and the brain. And this can lead to various low blood pressure symptoms. Because of low blood pressure not enough blood reaches to all parts of the body and thus the cells do not receive the correct amount of oxygen and nutrients. Therefore, the waste products in the blood are not removed. When you have prolonged low blood pressure all organs start malfunctioning and this leads to shock.You know that the thyroid gland is stimulated by the pituitary gland to produce hormones like thyroxine (T4) or thyroid hormone. Thyroxine determines how quickly nutrients are converted into energy and how efficiently food is burned within the body. Thereby when your thyroid gland functions properly, this will stimulate your entire body’s metabolism system. And that will revitalize your total activities by removing your fatigue or weakness. When your metabolism and immune system work positively, it is expected that your blood pressure will be kept in normal condition.Thyromine is the only medicine so far available in the health services to control the function of thyroid gland. L-Tyrosine is one of the amino acids that your body needs to make thyroid hormones. L-Tyrosine is included in thyromine products because it works to stimulate the metabolism. It’s also an element in helping your brain operate efficiently and for you to feel good naturally. Thyromine is an all-natural supplement giving no ill effects.

Even if you are searching for other information somehow related to 404 object not found, server administrator career, wrist blood pressure monitor review or lower high blood pressure this article should help a great deal.

Systolic pressure is the pressure of your blood against your artery walls when your heart is pumping blood to your organs. Many people believe that managing their systolic blood pressure is more important than supervising their diastolic blood pressure. Yes, this is because studies show that increase of systolic blood pressure calculates the risk of cardiovascular disease in comparison to increase in diastolic blood pressure.

Blood pressure varies during a day. It is lowest when the person is resting and gradually rises as the person gets up. Blood pressure usually rises when the person is tense, agitated, or generally energetic, even though it stays pretty much the same. Blood pressure in children is comparatively much lower than in the adults since pressure rises as a person age.

Systolic blood pressure reading greater or equal to 140 or a diastolic blood pressure reading greater or equal to 90 indicates high blood pressure.

As detailed as this article is, don’t forget that you can find more information about low blood pressure or any such information from any of the search engines out there such as MSN dot com. Commit yourself to finding specific information therein about low blood pressure and you will.

All adults should have a blood pressure measurement at least once every five years up to the age of 80 – and more often thereafter. If their blood pressure reading is borderline or high then the frequency of checking should be increased to at least once a year.

Having your blood pressure taken regularly is very important. You should make sure that your blood pressure is read each time you go to the doctor. The doctor or nurse can tell you if your blood pressure was high or not, and what you can do to get your blood pressure back to normal.

In order to ensure that these new devices provide accurate data, they should be calibrated and validated periodically. Calibration ensures that measurements start from zero on all occasions. It is important that you check the blood pressure monitor you use for accuracy.

Many people searching for low blood pressure also searched online for blood pressure values, american heart association low, and even arm blood pressure monitors.

Blood pressure is the result of the flow of blood times the resistance in the blood vessels as the heart pumps out blood. Each time your heart beats, it pumps blood into the arteries. When the heart is actively pumping blood, the pressure is at its highest and referred to as systolic pressure. Between beats, when your heart is at rest the pressure falls this is diastolic pressure. These two numbers determine your blood pressure and are usually written one above/or before the other for example 120/80 or spoken as 120 over 80 (Normal). A reading of 90/60 or lower is considered as low (Hypotension), while 140/90 is considered as high (Hypertension). A blood pressure chart when used in tandem with your blood pressure monitor can be an invaluable tool towards alleviating your concerns or fears.

Low blood pressure may not have gained the notoriety as that of high blood pressure but if left untreated its consequences can be just as serious. There are a variety of ailments related to low blood pressure which if not diagnosed and treated in their early stages can lead to serious complications. Most prominent are: postural (orthostatic) hypotension and neutrally mediated (neurogenic orthostatic) hypotension.

Postural hypotension manifests itself as a dizzy or light headed feeling when moving from a lying or sitting position to standing position. It is thought to be caused by the inability of the autonomic nervous system (the part of the nervous system that controls involuntary vital actions, such as the heartbeat) to respond appropriately to sudden changes. It is believed that this can happen for a variety of reasons including: lack of food, extended exposure to heat, or being overly tired. People who are taking medication for high blood pressure are also prone to this illness. Treatment is dependent on the severity of the symptoms and may include increased fluid and salt intake and avoiding prolong periods without food or drink. Medication which encourages sodium retention and absorption may also be prescribed.

Neutrally Mediated Hypotension – when the regulation of blood pressure by the body is affected, particularly when standing.It is believed to be a lack of communication between the brain and the nerve censors which control heart rate and blood pressure. Not always is the condition serious, in some cases it may just be temporary while in others it can result in a person being unable to stand for long periods, dizziness, blurred vision and near fainting.

The kidneys can balance low pressure naturally by retaining salt and water, thereby making medical intervention unnecessary. However, it is advisable that you speak to your doctor if your monitor registers consistent low readings or you are experiencing any of the symptoms mentioned. For some people a reading below 120/80 is normal and no cause for alarm. This low or borderline reading is normal and may even be considered a sign of good cardiovascular health, since this can also be an indication of little stress on the heart, lungs and blood vessels. A fall in pressure may also be due to some event (example standing too quickly) or because of a medical condition. However, low blood pressure cannot always be ignored. If you experience frequent bouts of dizziness, fainting, blurred vision, nausea, rapid weak pulse, muscle weakness, fatigue, headache, cold clammy skin and lack of concentration you should consult your doctor for an evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, if necessary. In extreme cases the body can be deprived of an adequate supply of oxygen which can result in impaired heart and brain functions and respiratory problems leading to loss of consciousness or shock.

Low blood pressure or the hypotension is considered to be a sign of good health by some people, they hold this assumption because of the fact that high blood pressure possess a greater pressure on the heart and the circulatory system, and many people consider that the low blood pressure possess a lesser risk on the kidney disease, on the heart strokes, and other heart disease. But low blood pressure also possesses equal dangers, and it is also a sign of health in bad shape.

Low blood pressure also carries some risks. In low blood pressure, the brain, heart and the other diseases may not receive enough blood and this can cause some of the vital organs to fail, they may not function properly and they may even get permanently damaged. The lack of oxygen can also make the patients affected with low blood pressure to experience blackouts, especially in situations when you stand and sit very quickly after they have been lying down. Such types of blood pressure, wherein the patient experiences black outs is referred to as orthostatic hypotension. Sometimes low blood pressure can be a symptom for some of the life threatening diseases like dehydration, shock, diabetes, heart failure, heart attack and anaphylaxia (this is one of the life threatening disease caused because of allergies). It is not that low blood pressure can cause these diseases but it can be the initial stages for these diseases.

A person who is supposed to be affected by low blood pressure must have the blood pressure recorded as lower than 90/60. The pressure which indicates normal blood pressure is anything between 90/60 to 120/80m, only one of these numbers can be less than what is prescribed otherwise the person does not possess the normal blood pressure. Low blood pressure is one disease which is not considered to have been cure.

Inspite of the reading many doctors many doctors do not say that the person has low blood pressure unless the person does not shows some signs of other diseases. Some of these other signs are like fainting without any specific reason like improper consumption of food causes the people to faint, if people faint without any reason, dizziness, lightheadedness. All or some of these signs when they are present along with the reading, then the doctors usually declare the person to have low blood pressure. This is because of the fat that blood pressure that is low should be capable of causing health problems is usually caused by the other health problems. So it is considered to be essential by the doctors to treat the causes of low blood pressure and incase there are no causes of low blood pressure then the doctors just prescribe certain medicines so as to regulate the blood pressure.

Low blood pressure, known as hypotension, means that the pressure of blood circulating around your body is lower than normal or lower than expected given the environmental conditions.

Hypotension, however, is a relative term – a person can have low blood pressure compared to other people who have similar physical characteristics, but may still be perfectly healthy.

Low blood pressure is only a problem if it has a negative effect on your body. For example, any of your vital organs, particularly your brain, can become starved of oxygen and nutrients if the blood pressure serving that vital organ is too low for that particular individual.

What are the symptoms of hypotension?

Significant blood loss can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, resulting in the body going into a state of shock. The most dramatic effect of sudden hypotension is unconsciousness. However, low blood pressure usually develops over time.

Some of the most common symptoms are:

•	light-headedness, when standing from a sitting or lying position;

•	unsteadiness;

•	dizziness;

•	blurred vision;

•	unusual fatigue;

•	fainting.

What are the causes of hypotension?

Low blood pressure can result from one or more of many different causes including:

•	emotional stress, fear, or pain (these are the most common causes of fainting);

•	dehydration, which reduces blood volume;

•	your body’s reaction to heat, which is to shunt blood into the vessels of the skin,

leading to dehydration;

•	blood donation which reduces your blood volume;

•	internal bleeding, such as a perforated stomach ulcer;

•	severe blood loss from trauma, such as a road accident or deep cut;

•	pregnancy;

•	some medications for high blood pressure which lower blood pressure too far;

•	diuretics, which produce fluid loss and these can lead to loss of blood volume;

•	some medications for depression;

•	some medications for certain heart conditions;

•	allergic reaction to certain drugs or chemicals;

•	some forms of infection, such as toxic shock syndrome.

•	heart disease, which can affect the pumping action of the heart muscle;

•	some nervous system disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease;

•	Addisons disease in which the adrenal glands fail to produce sufficient hormones critical to maintaining blood-pressure.

Many people have experienced the temporary effects of low blood pressure when standing suddenly upright from a sitting or lying position. Usually the blood vessels in your body respond to this sudden increase in gravity by constricting, thus increasing your blood pressure.

If however, the blood vessels don’t adjust to compensate for the increased gravity effects of your standing position and allow the blood pressure to drop, this results in a feeling of light-headedness, or if severe enough, dizziness or fainting.

What can be done about Hypotension?

Treatment for hypotension depends on the specific cause or causes. For example, the dosages of existing medications may need to be altered or a bleeding stomach ulcer surgically repaired. If no particular cause can be found, drugs may be used to raise blood pressure.

While hypotension – low blood pressure – can have significant effects on your health, these are often temporary and, once the cause has been determined, can usually be readily treated.

Hypotension has far less potential to damage your health than does hypertension – high blood pressure.

However, if you believe that persistent low blood pressure is affecting your health you should seek medical attention to determine the cause and take your physician’s recommended steps to improve your blood pressure.

• light-headedness, when standing from a sitting or lying position;
• unsteadiness;
• dizziness;
• blurred vision;
• unusual fatigue;
• fainting.

What are the causes of hypotension?

Low blood pressure can result from one or more of many different causes including:

• emotional stress, fear, or pain (these are the most common causes of fainting);
• dehydration, which reduces blood volume;
• your body’s reaction to heat, which is to shunt blood into the vessels of the skin,leading to dehydration;
• blood donation which reduces your blood volume;
• internal bleeding, such as a perforated stomach ulcer;
• severe blood loss from trauma, such as a road accident or deep cut;
• pregnancy;
• some medications for high blood pressure which lower blood pressure too far;
• diuretics, which produce fluid loss and these can lead to loss of blood volume;
• some medications for depression;
• some medications for certain heart conditions;
• allergic reaction to certain drugs or chemicals;
• some forms of infection, such as toxic shock syndrome.
• heart disease, which can affect the pumping action of the heart muscle;
• some nervous system disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease;
• Addison’s disease in which the adrenal glands fail to produce sufficient hormones critical to maintaining blood pressure.

For example,the dosages of existing medications may need to be altered or a bleeding stomach ulcer surgically repaired.

However, if you believe that persistent low blood pressure is affecting your health you should seek medical attention to determine the cause and take your physician/s recommended steps to improve your blood pressure.

Elderly people are prone to orthostatic hypotension – temporary low blood pressure and dizziness when they rise suddenly from a reclining or sitting position. Because the ageing sympathetic nervous system does not respond as quickly as it once did to postural changes, blood pools briefly in the lower limbs, reducing blood pressure and consequently blood delivery to the brain. Fainting may occur accompanied by paleness, a weak pulse, and dilated pupils. Making postural changes slowly to give the nervous system time to adjust usually prevents this problem. People taking hypotensive medication may also experience problems.

Chronic hypotension may hint at poor nutrition, because the poorly nourished are often anaemic and have inadequate levels of blood proteins. Because blood viscosity is low, blood pressure is also lower than normal. The blood vessel walls of a person with hypotension are usually very relaxed and possibly flabby or stretched. Few nutrients can reach body tissues from this condition. A light-headedness occurs, the body aches and restless sleep are normal patterns but for a correct assessment use a blood pressure gauge. Other symptoms include fatigue, lack of endurance, sensitivity to heat and cold, development of a rapid pulse on exertion, and little interest in sex. The individual requires more sleep than normal people. Chronic hypotension may warn of Addison’s disease (inadequate adrenal cortex function), hypothyroidism, hypoglycaemia, anaemia, or severe tissue wasting.

Acute hypotension is one of the most important signs of circulatory shock and a threat to patients undergoing surgery and those in intensive care units. Can result from severe haemorrhage, burns, gastroenteritis, or dehydration.

Too little Sodium has been purported to cause low blood pressure. Symptoms of Sodium deficiency include leg cramps at night, apathy, low energy, constipation, aching joints and muscles, dizziness and vomiting. Excessive amounts of salt may be excreted because of an undersupply of Vitamin B5. Low blood pressure can occur with a drop in Iron and Magnesium levels in the body, combined with stress. Mild deficiencies of calories, protein, or Vitamins C and B complex (especially B5) have produced low blood pressure.

Adrenal exhaustion is commonly associated with hypotension.

There are 2 parts to the adrenal glands – the cortex and the medulla. The adrenal cortex helps to maintain salt and water balance in the body. The medulla of the adrenal gland produces the hormone epinephrine, also called adrenaline, when the body is under stress. The functioning ability of the adrenal glands is most often impaired due to excessive use of cortisone & steroid treatment for disorders such as arthritis, eczema and asthma. Long term use of cortisone drugs causes the adrenal gland to shrink in size. Adrenal cortical failure is also caused by pituitary disease and tuberculosis. In conditions of stress, they can shrink and become smaller or when they are overworked, they can become 4 times larger. The adrenals can become damaged from continuous stress, which goes beyond their ability to recover from, before the next stressful period comes along.

People with adrenal insufficiency are the type who usually lead fairly stressful lives. If they also worry a lot, are fatigued or if they do not eat well and have low nutritional levels, these poor glands will not be able to cope. The profile of a person with under active adrenals includes a person who is meticulous in their work. They tend to be perfectionists who often drive themselves to exhaustion, since they are unable to relax easily. Sluggishness and a lack of concentration can occur just before lunch when their blood sugar level is low. Severe personality and emotional changes can occur, but in most cases these are reversible. The skin on these people may be thickened and their nails may be brittle. Their blood pressure is usually low or subnormal – 105/60 or less. As well as this, these people can be the ones who get swollen ankles, which are worse in the afternoon and at night, that then return to normal after a good nights sleep. Other symptoms found in 75% of people with adrenal insufficiency include fatigue, nervousness and irritability, feelings of depression, muscle weakness, light headedness and headaches, cravings for salt, PMT, allergies, sparse body hair, poor memory, confused states, feelings of frustration, fears and an intolerance to alcohol.

Your diet is essential to support your adrenal glands and feel better. It is vital that people who suffer from adrenal problems stick to a strict dietary regime that eliminates rapidly absorbed carbohydrates and sugars. This includes sweets, cakes and biscuits and foods made from white flour. Eating these causes a sudden rise in blood sugar, with a subsequent sudden drop. Small meals that are correctly combined, as well as small snacks of nuts (almonds) between meals is advisable. This will help to prevent the drop in the blood sugar levels, which occur two to three hours after eating. A protein deficient diet, with emphasis on simple carbohydrates, especially refined sugars, depletes adrenal function and fails to restore adequate nutritional support to these glands.

In order to keep the adrenal glands functioning properly stress and stimulants such as coffee, tea, and chocolate must be avoided. Continuous and prolonged stress from troubled marriages, bad job conditions, illness or feelings of low esteem or loneliness can be detrimental to the adrenal glands. Because the adrenals must work harder under stressful situations, continuous stress will impair their functioning ability. Poor nutritional habits, smoking, stimulants, alcohol and drug abuse can also contribute to adrenal failure.

Avoid alcohol, caffeine and tobacco, as these substances are highly toxic to the adrenal and other glands. Stay away from fats, fried foods, ham, pork, highly processed foods, soft drinks, sugar, white flour and refined salt. These foods put un-necessary stress on the adrenals. Consume plenty of fresh vegetables – particularly green, leafy ones. Brown rice, legumes, olive and safflower oils, nuts, seeds, wheat germ and whole grains are healthy additions to the diet. Eat deep water fish such as salmon and tuna – at least 3 times a week.

B complex vitamins are essential, but especially Vitamin B5 or Pantothenic acid. 100mg of the B vitamins should be taken twice a day. Mega B or Vitamin B complex 100 are some of the strongest B complex we have found on the market, containing 100mg of most of the B vitamins per capsule.

A correctly combined Magnesium Supplement is an essential addition for anyone who has adrenal problems. Radiance Magnesium Complex is a good choice. The amino acid L- Tyrosine aids adrenal function and helps relieve the excess stress put on these glands.

Vitamin C, plus Bioflavonoids, are essential for a healthy functioning of the adrenals. Between 4,000-10,000mg has been used daily, split into many small does throughout the day. We use the Mega C Powder or Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids powder and put this into a drink bottle and drink this throughout the day.

Adrenal Formula is a herbal combination that provides support to the adrenal gland. It has been designed to tone and strengthen adrenal function. It provides herbs that help the body cope better during stress, improving circulation, soothing irritated tissue and restoring a balanced hormonal output.

We have found that just by improving the diet – to one that is high in protein and lower in carbohydrates, has helped dramatically with adrenal problems. Ideally eat every 2 ½ hours throughout the day. Strive for no less than 20 grams of actual protein per meal. Most packaged foods have a nutritional panel on the back, which will give you an idea of the amount of ACTUAL protein contained in the product. In a “nut shell”, protein is anything that comes from an animal (meat, fish, eggs, dairy products) also nuts and seeds and soy products. As an example of portion size, 1 x 85 gram tin of tuna meat, provides approximately 25 grams of actual protein.

According to Chinese medical tradition, low blood pressure is caused by Deficient qi in the circulatory system. Symptoms may be alleviated by Ginseng and Chinese Angelica. Broom is useful for treating low blood pressure, as it tones the arteries. Ginger, Hawthorn, and Rosemary will also be useful as they are stimulating and work to encourage circulation.

Hyssop essential oil has hypertensive properties, making it useful in the treatment of low blood pressure, and has a general tonic effect on circulation. It also helps to relieve fatigue, and increase alertness. Refreshing Rosemary essential oil is a circulation stimulant, excellent for low blood pressure and poor circulation. It also relieves stress related disorders, mental exhaustion, and promotes mental clarity. Regular massage with oils of Black Pepper, Lemon, Sage, or Rosemary which stimulate and warm will be useful.

Homoeopathic treatment would be constitutional, but the following remedies may help if you have a tendency to faint. Veratrum is for fainting caused by anger. Coffea is for fainting brought on by excitement. Ignatia is for fainting caused by an emotional shock or trauma. Aconite is for fainting caused by fright, and characterised by tension and pale, clammy skin. Cocculus, when caused by lack of sleep. Gelsemium, when you feel weak and shaky.

Nutritional and Herbal support for Low Blood Pressure includes:

Multi-Vite – A formulation by Leanne James. One a day Multivitamin, formulated with New Zealanders in mind, taking into account our soil depletion of low Zinc, Boron & Selenium. Using the most absorbable forms of minerals available & 25mg of most B Vitamins.

Adrenal Support – A well combined supplement specifically to support proper adrenal function. Provides herbs that help the body cope better during stress, improving circulation, soothing irritated tissue and restoring a balanced hormonal output.

Multivital – Multivital contains 15 specialised herbs and is a totally herbal multi vitamin. Great tonic. Assists when stressed, helps build stamina, assists in the maintenance of peripheral circulation, acts as a liver tonic and aids digestion.

Womens Iron Complex – A high potency, readily absorbed Iron Complex containing Iron bisglycinate, Vitamin C, Folic acid, Vitamin B12, as well as 100mg of the herbs Dong Quai and Red Raspberry leaf. Contains 27mg of elemental Iron per tablet. Ideal for Iron deficiency & anaemia.

Hawthorn berries – Hawthorn possesses a unique balancing effect on the heart and circulation, thus qualifying it as a reliable support tonic in cardiovascular care. Several recent German studies verify that Hawthorn will increase coronary circulation by dilating coronary vessels and strengthen heart and muscle tissue. It also contains components which have been shown to improve tone and elasticity of arteries and veins making it useful for hypotension.

Bio-Optimised Whey – This product is an excellent source of quality bio-available protein, that has one of the highest absorption ratios (able to be used by the body). Provides a complex array of essential building block amino acids, including BCAA’s & L-Glutamine.

Some interesting points on Low Blood Pressure:

Adrenal gland function self test: The normal systolic blood pressure (the higher number of the reading – 120/80) is approximately 10mm higher when you are standing than when you are lying down. To test adrenal function, take and compare two blood pressure readings – one while lying down and one while standing. Rest for 5 minutes in the recumbent position (lying down) before taking the reading. Stand up and immediately take the blood pressure again. If the blood pressure is lower after standing, suspect reduced adrenal gland function. The degree to which the blood pressure drops while standing is often proportionate to the degree of the hypoadrenalism.

The main cause of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or CFS (also known as ME or Tapanui Flu) appears to be long term stress combined with an inadequate diet and lack of restful sleep. Some doctors believe this disorder is nature’s way of enforcing rest when we burn the candle at both ends. It is reported to be notoriously hard to cure quickly, but a combination of a nutritious diet, peaceful lifestyle, and patience seems to work in most cases. Nevertheless, in a 1995 study of 23 sufferers at John Hopkins University it was found that 22 of them had lower than normal blood pressure, they therefore decided to put them on a high salt diet. 19 of the sufferers agreed to do this. The result was that 9 were completely cured and all of the others improved in varying degrees.

The heart pumps blood for good circulation in the body. The circulatory process is called blood pressure. Whenever a person gets excited, afraid, and angry – the blood pressure increases or decreases. Blood pressure is also related to pulse rate. Whenever there is too much or too less blood flow in the body, there comes a deficiency or disease.

Hypotension is a deficiency pertaining to low blood pressure. This sickness is more common to young women. Even if one has low blood pressure, one should be alarmed because this is a serious condition. In some cases, this condition is caused by improper functioning of the endocrine glands or by the circulatory system.

How will a person determine that one has hypotension? If one is experiencing headaches, dizziness when getting up, not being energetic or weak pulse may have hypotension. However, this is not a symptom of ill health. In many cases, people who have low blood pressure enjoy healthier and longer lives than individuals whose blood pressure is closer to average.

There are countless treatments for this circumstance. It could be taking prescription medicines or any form of detoxification may be helpful. Nevertheless, there is an option or more affordable way to prevent or to treat hypotension. This is through Chinese medicines.

There are herbs that could help treat hypotension. These include ginseng, oats, and hawthorn berries. In addition, there are traditional Chinese medicines that are useful for blood circulation improvements. These include Dang Shen, Huang Qi, Dang Gui,Huang Jing, Bai Zhu, Wu Wei Zi, mix-fried Ma Huang, Zhi Ke, Sheng Ma, and mix-fried Gan Cao. The advantage of taking these medicines is that one can get them simply at their on backyard. This also could prevent from frequent doctor and hospital visits. No matter what the case may be, a good medical examination is still best move to determine the condition in order to treat and prevent low blood pressure.

Other Chinese remedies are:

Cure Low Blood Pressure With Dandelion Root Powder

What is Treatment of Low Blood pressure?

If you know the cause of low blood pressure then treat the cause first to treat low blood pressure. Chronic low blood pressure can be treated with life style changes and diet management. You can easily control your blood pressure to normal limits by making following changes to your daily life style.

Use more salt. Doctors often suggest you to decrease salt intake, as sodium can increase blood pressure. But this is an advantage for people with low blood pressure. If you are patient of heart failure then consult your doctor before increasing salt in your diet.

Drink lot of fluids — You may take 10 glasses of fluid a day. During exercise and hot weather you should take fluids rich in sodium and potassium

Take extra salt and water during illness like flue and cold. During flue you may lose lot of fluid.

Have your doctor evaluate your medicine and omit that drug that is causing too low blood pressure.

To promote blood flow, have regular exercise.

If you are having postural hypotension, then be careful while standing up from lying or sitting position. Breath deeply for few minutes before standing up. Pump your ankles and feet a few times before standing up to increase circulation. For few minutes sit upright on edge of bed before standing up. Cross your thighs and legs in a scissors fashion and squeeze or put one foot on a chair and lean as far forward as possible. These maneuvers increase blood flow from your legs to heart.

Slightly elevate head of your bed while sleeping by placing bricks under the head of bed.

Avoid heavy lifting

Do not strain when you are in toilet

Don’t take prolong hot water baths, if you are having symptoms while taking bath, sit down. It is better to keep a chair in shower to help prevent injury.

If your blood pressure gets down after taking meal, then you should take small amount of frequent meals. Better to rest after taking meal. Do not take antihypertensive drugs before meal. Don’t take high carbohydrate diet like potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. You may take caffeinated coffee with your meals. caffeine can increase blood pressure, as caffeine is known to cause other problems as well so take advice from your doctor before increasing caffeine in your diet. 2 cups of coffee give you 250 mg of caffeine.

You may wear elastic support stockings to cover your legs and thighs. By doing this, you restrict blood flow to legs, and most of blood retain in upper body parts thus keeping blood pressure normal.

Avoid taking alcohol when you are having low blood pressure as alcohol is also an important dehydrating factor. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

Increase whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean chicken and fish in your diet

Medications for Low Blood Pressure

Following medicines can raise blood pressure and physicians often add these drugs to their prescription

Fludrocortisone. It is a mineralocorticoid that can be used for low blood pressure cases like postural hypotension. Its mechanism of action is retention of sodium by the kidney thus retaining more fluid in body and increasing blood pressure. Sodium retention causes loss of potassium at the same time, so when you are taking this medicine it is necessary to take potassium with your diet.

Midodrine. Midodrine activates arterioles and veins receptors to produce an increase in blood pressure. If you have shy drager syndrome then this drug can be useful to treat postural hypotension.

Some other drugs like pyridostigmine, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, caffeine and erythropoietin can also increase blood pressure.
