The more someone weighs, the larger the body of the person. And a larger body requires more blood in order to provide adequate nutrients and oxygen to it. In turn, more blood volume being pumped exerts more pressure on the walls of the arteries. So if you lose weight, not as much blood is needed and your blood pressure falls.</p>
<p>Studies have shown that men with a waist measurement of more than 40 inches and women of more than 35 are more prone to hypertension. Additionally, losing 10 pounds can significantly lower blood pressure.</p>
<p>·    <b>Exercise</b> – The next step to relieve hypertension is to exercise. Get moving! When you exercise, you strengthen your muscles. <p>Stress, regardless of the source, is interpreted by the body as a threat. The nervous system will kick in the fight or flight mode and that has a number of physical effects on the heart and blood vessel system.</p>
<p>The fight or flight response is essential to our survival and always has been. When the cave man was about to be attacked by the saber tooth tiger, his body needed to be super charged in order to fight back or flee. The same is true today. We need to be able to get super charged if we are facing a real threat. However, our threats are not always &#8220;real&#8221; in the sense that they can do physical harm to us, but more mental as in what happens if I don&#8217;t get to work on time.</p>
<p>Unfortunately the body can&#8217;t tell the difference between the two. The more you stress on the mental threat, the more the body responds with the fight or flight response.</p>
<p>So what happens when this occurs? The purpose of the response is to get the body ready for an exertion that is beyond normal. </p>
<p>To accomplish this:<br />The heart pumps faster to rush blood to the body increasing blood pressure.<br />
Breathing becomes more rapid to get nutrients and oxygen to the muscles and the brain.<br />
A natural coagulant is produced to encourage blood clotting if we get cut.<br />
Blood sugar and fat are released into the blood system to give us the extra energy we need to handle the threat.<br />

<p>I would arrive home relaxed and could better enjoy my family. And the big bonus was the ability to go to sleep.</p>

<p>Most Americans get less than 6 hours of sleep a night. Sleep is a natural stress management system and can&#8217;t be ignored. Find a way to get the sleep you need be it warm milk or an herbal tea.</p>

<p>High blood pressure doesn&#8217;t have any visible symptoms, so many people have it and they aren&#8217;t aware about it. It is usually discovered during routine medical controls, but a single measurement is not enough to discover it, because anyone can have high blood pressure after a stressful event or after practicing sports. A teaspoon of salt contains twice the normal amount of sodium, and many types of food also contain sodium, so it&#8217;s easy to consume much more sodium than the body needs. The easiest way to cut down sodium is to eat very little salt or none.</p>
<p>After studying the effects of several types of food on blood pressure, scientists have developed an eating plan called DASH &#8211; Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension. DASH states that you should eat only fruits, vegetables, grains, fish and low-fat dairy products, and very few red meats, sweets and other foods that are rich in fats.</p>

In general, high blood pressure or hypertension is often the warning sign that you have to make a change in the way you live your life. It can ultimately lead to far more serious conditions such as kidney complaints, strokes and heart attacks if not taken cared of hence it is vital to take it seriously. Fortunately, if detected early it is easy to lower high blood pressure without drugs and still lead an active and full life. If you want to know how to lower high blood pressure then you should recognize the stages of hypertension. A normal blood pressure reading is120/80 mm Hg. A reading that is above this mark is seen as hypertension. The reading can range from the normal to a high reading and this will influence how go about lowering your blood pressure.The first level of hypertension ranges between 120/80 mm Hg to 139/89 mm Hg. Obviously this is just above a normal reading so treatment doesn&#8217;t have to be radical. Simple alterations to your diet and adding a bit of exercise to your lifestyle will probably do the trick in lowering your blood pressure. If your reading gets above this level and is 140/90 mm Hg or more then the treatment to bring high blood pressure under control gets more important and may involve taking drugs. Treating problems like high blood pressure often involves lifestyle changes on a number of fronts. This means looking at eating different types of foods and maybe going on a diet. Taking exercise on a regular basis and avoiding or reducing things like smoking and alcohol consumption.In terms of the foods that should be eaten, it is important to eat fresh food, especially fruit and vegetables. Wholes grains, fiber and soluble fiber are also important. Try to incorporate exercise into your life on a regular basis. If you dislike going to the gym or dedicating time to a regimented exercise program then try to blend it into your daily activities. Ride a bike to work. Park the car further away from the office, or train station if you commute to work, and walk the rest of the way. Take the stairs rather than the elevator. Regular exercise on the other hand means doing it five times a week at the very least whereas moderate exercise is a long and vigorous routine. An example of moderate exercise is walking from forty to fifty minutes or jogging from twenty to thirty minutes.There are two main types of exercises to lower blood pressure:1. Aerobic Exercise &#8211; Aerobic a nomenclature that literally means &#8220;with air&#8221;. This type of exercise requires the extended use of the cardiovascular system in moving the oxygen in the blood. Examples are daily walking, swimming and skiing from twenty minutes to one hour.2. Anaerobic Exercise &#8211; or &#8220;without air&#8221; does not necessarily mean that that you will not breathe while doing an exercise but only the usual breathing and not always.
