Article by Simon Foster

The cost and many negative side effects associated with drugs prescribed to prevent and cure high blood pressure is making the search for alternative high blood pressure remedies very popular. Let’s take a look at the main alternative and natural (non-pharmaceutical) methods for lowering blood pressure.

There are two main approaches to alternative high blood pressure remedies: exercise and diet.

Blood pressure lowering exercises can be physical, mental, or a combination.

Slow breathing exercises are becoming increasingly popular given that study after study is showing that by taking fifteen minutes off each day to consciously regulate your breathing patterns a can have a cumulative and positive impact on your blood pressure, lowering the pressure over time. The ideal rate is six breaths a minute and there are audio tapes with soothing background music and breathing cues to help you out. You can also purchase a machine designed to help you regulate your breathing now available in High Street drug stores.

Stress reducing meditation has also been found to be effective in lowering blood pressure levels. Given that stress can be a major causal factor in us developing high blood pressure in the first place this approach makes sense. Moving to a slower-paced, less stressful existence has a beneficial effect on our blood pressure as well as our overall sense of well being.

A very popular high blood pressure remedy involves a type of rhythmic walking where you walk for fifteen minutes swinging your arms in synchronicity to your feet and keeping a mental or verbal note of the rhythm – left, right, left, right, and so on. Sounds simple enough but it has shown to reduce stress and lower blood pressure over the long term when practised daily.

Highly beneficial are workouts – exercise designed to get your cardiovascular system up and running. Mountain hiking, jogging, anything that gets your heart beating and your blood flowing is good for your overall health and will help lower your blood pressure. If you haven’t exercised for ages don’t overdo it at first though. Start with a walk around the neighbourhood for thirty minutes a day. All exercise is beneficial.

The other approach to high blood pressure remedies is dietary changes. You eat less of some stuff (or cut it out altogether), more of other stuff, and don’t forget the supplements.

Start eating (or drinking) more water, bananas, apples, oatmeal, celery, onions, garlic, whole grains, cayenne pepper, red wine, dark chocolate, fish, tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, nuts, apple cider vinegar, camomile tea, naturally harvested sea salt.

Start eating less fatty foods (in particular trans-fats and saturated fats), baked good (like donuts, etc.), fries, pastries, red meat, white flour, processed foods in general – like table salt.

Consider including dietary supplements such as Vitamins C, E, B12, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Hawthorn tincture.

If you are considering using alternative high blood pressure remedies, remember that there are possibly many causes of your condition (including genetics) and there may not be one single approach that will ensure you healthy blood pressure levels. Consider using a number of remedies together incorporating both dietary and exercise approaches. The remedies outlined above are complimentary when used together. Blood pressure will slowly come down if you switch to a healthy diet and exercise pattern. Using these high blood pressure remedies you can achieve a healthy blood level without taking medications. I am living proof of that fact. Using a range of these remedies I have managed to reduce my blood pressure from a dangerously high 195/125 to a safe level of 125/85 in the course of three to four months. You can do it too.

Simon Foster was a sufferer of dangerously high blood pressure but has now achieved healthy levels using high blood pressure remedies without the use of medications. He now shares the inside knowledge and techniques on his blog: highbloodpressurebegone.com

Many people don’t trust drugs for high blood pressure; they prefer natural way of dealing with it. Luckily for you, several herbs are very effective to control this common condition. Discover how you can use herbs for high blood pressure to treat hypertension and to improve your health.

Herbs have always been used successfully to treat many conditions. And hypertansion treatment is not an exception. Of course, herbs don’t give a dramatic effect like drugs, but their effect is more long term. Also herbs are safer and don’t produce dangerous side effects.

Herbs used to treat high blood pressure are:

- Ginkgo Biloba

- Garlic

- Hawthorn

- Arjuna

- Ashwagandha

- Valerian (to relive stress)

- Cinnamon

- Nutmeg

- Ginger

- Cardamom

- Guelder rose

Ginkgo Biloba gives very good results. It relaxes blood vessels and stimulates the circulatory system. It reduces bloods ability to clot which allows blood to flow more freely. Ginkgo Biloba is the most known herb for natural high blood pressure control. Surprisingly, garlic has similar effect. Studies prove that people who take garlic supplement show reduction in hypertansion.

Hawthorn helps to dilate blood vessels and block Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) also called blood-restricting enzyme.

Other herbs often used for treating hypertansion include passiflora incarnate which has a calming effect and also relaxes blood vessels, resulting in reduced blood pressure. Guelder rose bark also relaxes the entire cardiovascular system, lowering hypertansion.

A complex view of natural treatments

If you are serious about controlling your blood pressure the natural way, using herbal remedies is only part of the solution. You will also have to take a look at your lifestyle and make changes if necessary.

For example, no matter how many herbal medicine you use, your pressure will be high if you smoke. Nicotine constricts the blood vessels. So your heart has to work twice as hard. Reducing smoking is a good start, but eventually aims at giving it up completely.

Another thing that affects blood pressure greatly is whether you lead active or sedately lifestyle. You will have to move around to straighten your heart. In addition to using herbal remedies, diet and exercise needs to be part of the solution.

Diet is also greatly important. You will have to eat less foods high is saturated fat, cholesterol and salt. Salt is a number one enemy of a person with hypertension. When cooking your meals try using spices and herbs instead of salt. This will work especially well since several spices like cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger help to reduce blood pressure

It might be easier to take a pill once a day rather than work on treating your blood pressure naturally. But by using herbs for high blood pressure, exercising and eating right you will get long lasting results.

Millions of people suffer from hypertension, and most take prescription drugs for their condition. Are you aware that there are many natural ways to lower your high blood pressure that are just as effective, and don’t cause unwanted side effects? This article will give you some information you need to decide if natural methods are right for you.

Here is a fact you may not be aware of. Prescription medications for hypertension are usually synthetic, and do not treat the underlying cause of your problem. They can also cause damage to the organs in your body! Other than side effects that some people experience, this is reason enough to stop taking drugs to treat your condition.

Here is a sampling of some of the ways you can naturally lower your high blood pressure:

1. Eat foods containing potassium and magnesium. Foods like bananas, potatoes, tomatoes, oatmeal and dark leafy green vegetables are just a few of the foods that are wonderful for helping reduce hypertension.

2. Eat a healthy diet low in cholesterol, saturated fats and salt.

3. Limit alcohol consumption. Alcohol raises blood pressure, but drinking a very small amount per day is acceptable. Limit your intake to one glass per day for women, two for men.

4. Exercise. You don’t have to perform strenuous exercise. Walking, yoga and pilates are physical activities that are very effective when trying to lower high blood pressure the natural way.

These are just a few things you can do. There are herbs that are effective in controlling hypertension, as well as vitamins and minerals you should make sure you get enough of.

There are literally hundreds of things you can do to control your condition without risking your health by using prescription medications. Treating your hypertension naturally not only works, it treats the cause of the problem as well. You will find that your overall health improves tremendously, including other conditions such as high cholesterol and diabetes.

Are you ready to take control of your health, and feel better than you have in years? Learn more about all of the natural ways you can lower your high blood pressure. I highly recommend The High Blood Pressure Remedy Report. It is filled with the information and resources you need to learn how to get off of synthetic prescription drugs – for good.

The aim of any blood pressure treatment is to remove the pressure, positive or negative, and restore the blood to its normal level. There are two blood pressure levels which the experts consider as ideal.

The usually accepted target is to reduce blood pressure to below 140/90. Some say it should be below 140/85. But with regards to the levels, your doctor will make the final decision, because he knows your medical history. You might have certain other complications, for which he has to give allowance and due consideration.

The types of medications used to control blood pressure are many. Predominantly, there are five main classes of medicines that are used to control blood pressure. Each company may have its own brand and there are many over-the-counter medicines available.

Diuretics (water tablet) are one such medications available, either through prescription or over-the-counter. It is the most accepted system for treating blood pressure in the UK. A low dose of a diuretic is needed to treat high blood pressure. The most commonly used diuretic in treating high blood pressure is bendroflumethiazide. Other diuretics include:

1. Chlorothiazide

2. Chlorthalidone

3. Cyclopenthiazide

4. Hydrochlorothiazide

5. Indapamide

How do these tablets work?

The idea of these tablets is to increase the mount of salt and fluid that you pass out in your urine. The fluid in circulation is reduced, which in effect, reduces the blood pressure. It might also have a relaxing effect on the blood vessels and they, in turn, reduce the pressure within the blood vessels.

The principle adopted for the diuretic type of treatment is available in certain fruits and herbs, the importance of which is being gradually understood by researchers and scientists. Take garlic, for example. Garlic is regarded as one of the most effective remedies to lower blood pressure. The pressure and tension in the blood vessels are reduced because garlic has the power to ease the spasm of the small arteries. It also slows the pulse and modifies the heart rhythm, besides relieving the symptoms of dizziness, shortness of breath and the formation of gas within the digestive track. These days, garlic capsules are also available. An average dosage of two to three capsules a day is given to make a dent in abnormal blood pressure levels.

There are many different types of medications that are suitable for the treatment of high blood pressure and heart disease. Not all are effective and not all of them work in the same way.

An Ace inhibitor is a good medication that is used to treat hypertension by halting the production of angiotensin II, which is a naturally occurring bodily hormone that works against the arteries, making them narrower and potentially increasing blood pressure levels. When the hormone is depleted, the arteries stay wide open, allowing a steadier and more normal flow of blood to the heart, which in turn lowers blood pressure.

Brands of Ace Inhibitors

Benazepril, Enalapril and Lisinopril are the three most commonly used Ace inhibitors. These inhibitors are generally used to treat far more severe cases of high blood pressure and are not the first medication used after the first diagnosis. In an ideal world, people should stick to a healthy diet and exercise plan, as these are the best treatments and preventions of high blood pressure, but sadly, this is not the case. A diuretic will be administered after using the inhibitors, designed to flush out the system and encourage the release of blood pressure.

Lotensin (benazepril), Vasotec (enalapril), Prinivil and Zestril (lisinopril) are the manufacturing and marketing brand names for the most commonly used Ace inhibitors. Each of the inhibitors works in much the same way, by relaxing the arteries and helping to increase the flow of blood slowly, so as not to inadvertently cause a heart attack.

The Ace inhibitors do carry side effects, mostly undesirable, including cough, sore throat, fever, and mouth sores. Some other, less painful or aggravating side effects include an itchy, red skin rash, swelling of the neck, face or tongue, or a salty or metallic taste in the mouth. These side effects are not very common, but it is best to know what you may be getting yourself into.

Your potassium levels may elevate slightly during a course of the inhibitors. Some medicines, like diuretics, dramatically reduce the levels of potassium in the body, bringing health risks with it. It is important to keep a regular check on your potassium levels, because too much potassium in your body can cause you to be nervous, depressed, confused and sometimes you may feel a tingling sensation in the hands and/or feet.

Whilst people are encouraged to keep an eye on their salt intake if they have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, it is best not to use any kind of salt substitute as they too contain potassium. Anti-inflammatory drugs like Advil, Motrin, Aleve or aspirin can and usually do affect the way the inhibitor works in a negative way, and sometimes can completely interrupt the drugs from working.

Trial and error is usually the doctor’s main approach. They will try to avoid using any or many drugs that cause side effects, meaning that these trials can go on for years before the doctor manages to find a treatment that is right for the individual patient. A low dosage of a reasonably low risk and non-intrusive drug will be the first option when attempting to control high blood pressure or hypertension.

As previously stated, lots of high blood pressure medications carry side effects. As a result of this, you may wish to, or even be required to take a course of medications to counter act the side effects. This is not always possible because some of these types of medication may interrupt the normal use of the Ace inhibitors.

As always, the more natural the treatment the better. You can go and receive advice from any qualified doctor, who will then recommend the best course of action for you to take. There are little or no side effects associated with natural techniques on treating high blood pressure, but if you wish to or need to take on a medical approach, the Ace inhibitors are some of the best and most effective high blood pressure medications around at the moment.
