High Blood Pressure Treatment In India At Affordable Low Cost

Hypertension/High Blood pressure

Hypertension is the medical term for high blood pressure. High blood pressure (hbp) or hypertension means high pressure (tension) in the arteries. Arteries are vessels that carry blood from the pumping heart to all the tissues and organs of the body.

Blood pressure of less than 120 over 80 is considered a normal reading for people 18 and over. A borderline high systolic pressure of 120 to 139 or a diastolic pressure of 80 to 89 needs to be closely monitored. A blood pressure reading equal to or greater than 140 over 90 is considered high in people over the age of 18.

The top number, is the systolic blood pressure, corresponds to the pressure in the arteries as the heart contracts and pumps blood forward into the arteries. The bottom number, the diastolic pressure, represents the pressure in the arteries as the heart relaxes after the contraction. The diastolic pressure reflects the lowest pressure to which the arteries are exposed.

Causes Of Hypertension

Hypertension can be classified as either essential (primary) or secondary. Essential hypertension indicates that no specific medical cause can be found to explain a patient’s condition. Secondary hypertension indicates that the high blood pressure is a result of (i.e. secondary to) another condition, such as kidney disease or tumors.

Diagnosis Of Hypertension

Normal : – systolic less than 130, diastolic less than 85 High normal : – systolic 130-139, diastolic 85-89 High blood pressure : – Stage 1 (mild) systolic 140-159, diastolic 90-99 Stage 2 (moderate) systolic 160-179, diastolic 100- 109 Stage 3 (severe) systolic 180-209, diastolic 110-119

Any of the following may be performed to detect damage to the heart or blood vessels : –

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a noninvasive test that detects the electrical activity of the heart and records it on paper.
Echocardiogram is an ultrasound examination of the heart taken through the chest. Sound waves take a picture of the heart as it beats and relaxes and then transmits these images to a video monitor.
A plain chest x-ray primarily provides an estimate of the size of the heart, but it is much less specific than echocardiography, which looks inside the heart.

The following types of the organ damage are commonly seen in chronic high blood pressure : –

Heart attack Heart failure Stroke Kidney failure Eye damage or loss of vision Peripheral arterial disease Aneurysms

Treatment Of Hypertension

Sodium intake should be restricted; limiting the sodium intake by eliminating table salt, cooking salt and salty & processed foods can reduce blood pressure by 5mm of Hg. Loosing weight and regular physical excercise can reduce the blood pressure. There are many different medicines that can be used to treat high blood pressure.

Such medicines include : –

Alpha blockers Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) Beta-blockers Calcium channel blockers Central alpha agonists Diuretics Renin inhibitors, including aliskiren (Tekturna) Vasodilators

Do You Know The Cost Of Not Treating Your High Blood Pressure?

Are you one of the estimated 20 million Americans who have high blood pressure but is doing nothing to treat it?  You do know what the consequences of not reducing your blood pressure are right?  Those consequences read like a scene out of ER.  Heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure and now high diastolic blood pressure is being looked at as a possible contributor to Alzheimer’s.

What was that really good reason for doing nothing again?

High blood pressure is endemic in the United States.  Over 60 million Americans have it and fully a third is doing nothing about it.  Probably the biggest reason that some ignore this very dangerous condition is that it has no outward symptoms.  It may take years of abusing your blood vessels before the affects of high pressure manifest themselves as a heart attack or worse.

Out of sight out of mind is not a valid strategy when treating high blood pressure.

The really frustrating part for public health officials is that this condition can be prevented, controlled and even reversed in 90% of the cases.  And it can be done naturally without medication.

Think about that for a moment.  If you had cancer would you be ignoring it?  If you had cancer and there was a way to control it or reverse it without using chemo or radiation would you ignore it?

Then why are you ignoring your high blood pressure?

The American Heart Association endorses changes in lifestyle over medication when treating high blood pressure.  Changes in diet and exercise can quickly and dramatically reduce both systolic and diastolic pressure.  This isn’t rocket science and it’s not difficult to do.  All it takes is a little knowledge and a little commitment.  It doesn’t require life changing behavior.  Every little bit you do to lower your pressure counts.

Can you do any of these?

Walk for 10 to 30 minutes each day (it doesn’t all have to be at the same time)
Cut back on salt by eating out less.
Eat a banana a day.
Limit your alcohol intake to two drinks a day.
At a fresh fruit daily.
Substitute fish, poultry or lean white meat instead of beef three times a week
Take a garlic supplement daily.

There’s a ton more you could do but if you can do half the things on this list you can control your pressure.  Can you do that?

What are you waiting for?  Take responsibility for your health.  Do it for yourself, do it for your family or do it for your friends.  Just do it.

Just imagine knowing without a doubt exactly what will and won’t have a positive effect on your efforts to treating blood pressure?
