Natural remedies for blood pressure are abundant, cheap and easy to use. If you have high blood pressure you’re going to find this list of foods very helpful in your effort to reduce blood pressure.

If you’re a fanatic, become a vegetarian. Diets based on plant food alone are pretty much the best natural remedy for hypertension that there is. Even so, if you become a vegan you’re still going to have to take fish oil supplements to get your Omega 3.

Most of us chose not to be vegetarians and we’d probably rather live with the condition than go to that extreme with our diets. So for us, here are a list of foods that we can start eating and doing right away and use as natural remedies for blood pressure.

Do Eat Foods

Raw Garlic or garlic supplements. Garlic, the smelly rose, is something of a wonder food. It has been used medicinally for hundreds of years. As it applies to high blood pressure, garlic provides antioxidants and a natural vasodilator. Eat 4 to 5 cloves a day or take a supplement twice daily.

Cucumbers If your on blood pressure medication now, odds are it’s a diuretic. Cucumbers are a natural diuretic which helps flush out excess salt and assists in providing elasticity to the blood vessels. In addition it is a good source potassium, phosphorus and calcium, three minerals that are important to lowering BP.

Bananas The original fast food. Bananas are a super source of potassium which most of us are deficient in. It is essential to balance off the sodium levels in our bodies. In addition, bananas provide dietary fiber which assists in our digestive track.

Poultry, Cold Water Fish and Lean White Meat You don’t have to give up beef but you have to substitute some of those meals with these low fat meats. Low fat is the operative word here although the fish also provides Omega 3 which is required to reduce pressure.

Do Not Eat Foods

Salt Everybody’s favorite food apparently. Americans eat 6 to 9 times the daily allowance each day. It’s one thing to take the shaker off the table but the real culprits are processed foods and food at restaurants. Sodium is a major player in increasing pressure.

Alcohol You don’t have to give it up, just keep it to two drinks a day for men and 1 drink per day for women.

Dairy Products Realistically there is no way you are going to give up all dairy foods including milk, butter, eggs and cheese. However, there are a multitude of low fat and no fat versions of nearly every type of dairy product imaginable that you can use as a substitute.

Fatty Meat You know what I’m talking about. The good tasting stuff. The reason it tastes so good is all the saturated fat that cuts like prime rib, corned beef and fillet mignon have. Eat more of the “round” cuts like top round or bottom round roasts. You’ll have to slow cook these with a lot of moisture but they taste fine and they are a decent substitute.

There are a ton more do and do not eat foods but this should give you a start as a natural remedies for blood pressure. Do your research and plan these foods into your diet. It will take a little effort at first until it becomes second nature but the benefits will be well worth it.
